WCS Community Consult

The Wildlife Conservation Society, leading the project aimed at “Enhancing the well-being of Belize’s small-scale fisherfolk by creating viable, sustainable, and resilient supplementary livelihoods”, recently met with stakeholders in the Sarteneja area.

During this meeting, participants identified potential livelihood initiatives tailored to their needs. These discussions will contribute to the development of a prioritization matrix and detailed analysis for each alternative livelihood considered, along with recommendations for the most promising options in line with the project’s goals.

This project has entailed comprehensive research and data collection on alternative livelihoods within the country of Belize over the last decade (since 2014). This has resulted in a detailed report that covers all sustainable livelihood options investigated, successes realized, challenges faced, lessons learned, and future recommendations. All of these elements are compiled in a thorough audit report of supplementary livelihood initiatives.

Tara Scarborough ‘’WCS’s continuous efforts are building a strong foundation for the success of future initiatives and the practical implementation of soon to be identified prioritized livelihoods within Belize.’’
