CRO Development Communicating Science

From December 6th to 7th, The Strong Coasts Project, dedicated to equitable solutions for nature and people, hosted the Alan Alda Center for ‘Communicating Science’ Signature Science Communication Program. This intensive two-day initiative provided a comprehensive and engaging platform for experimenting with and adopting effective science communication practices, heavily relying on the Alda method—an approach that blends applied improvisation exercises and communication strategies.

During the first day, participants honed their skills in paying close attention to both verbal and non-verbal communication, establishing realistic and achievable communication goals, and crafting concise talks for larger audiences. On the second day, the focus shifted to successfully engaging in challenging conversations and employing narrative techniques to effectively convey the significance of one’s work.

Tara Scarborough ‘’I extend my gratitude to the team, particularly to Radha Ganesan and Nancee Moes, for reshaping the way I approach communicating my scientific endeavours to my audience. Through this program, I learned to enhance the memorability of my messages, prioritize clarity, provide constructive feedback, navigate challenging situations using strategic approaches, and leverage the power of narrative.

I acquired valuable insights into adjusting and redirecting my focus to more effectively connect with the most crucial individuals of all—MY AUDIENCE. ‘’
