FAO in collaboration with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) shares highlights on the 5th Women in Fisheries Forum held in Belize in June 2022.The focus was understanding the role of women in the coastal zone and fisheries sector. It highlights how women’s equitable participation in climate change adaptation and mitigation measures can lead to far reaching conservation impacts, improved community responsiveness, and the successful implementation of climate related policies. The forum addressed the role of women in responding to the impacts of climate change; gender strategy development and identification of opportunities for building climate resilience. This is an initiative of the project, “Enhancing adaptation planning and increasing climate resilience in the coastal zone and fisheries sector of Belize”. The project is being implemented by various agencies of the Government of Belize and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and is funded by the GCF.
