Edges of Earth Global Exposure

What comes to mind when you hear the phrase “Edges of Earth”?

Remote locations?
Natural boundaries?
Exploration and adventure?
Natural phenomena?

How about all of the above? That’s exactly what we experienced with the crew from Edges of Earth during their time with us.

Over an 11-day adventure, the CRO and crew travelled across several districts in Belize, exploring the impactful work we’ve been doing here. They dove into the deep blue sea, treated diseases, searched for turtle nests, encountered crocodiles, island-hopped, and immersed themselves in the local culture, just to name a few highlights.

The crew aimed to showcase the people, places, and projects under the Resilience Reef Initiative in Belize, but soon discovered there was so much more to unravel!

The journey began at Xunantunich, where they climbed to the top of the Mayan temple in the Cayo District. From there, they moved on to Goff’s Caye, an island off the coast of Belize City, where they met with the rangers and crew from the Coastal Zone Management Authority & Institute.

Next, they explored the Blue Hole, a world-class scuba destination and natural wonder managed by the Belize Audubon Society. After that, a few days were spent at Turneffe Atoll, getting acquainted with the staff from the University of Belize Environmental Research Institute at Calabash Field Station and the Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association, who manage the Marine Park.

At Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve, the fantastic team from Hol Chan Marine Reserve guided the crew through a day of turtle nest hunting along the coastline. Finally, concluding the journey by delving into the cultural and societal aspects of Belize, experiencing the rich traditions of the Garinagu and Mayan indigenous cultures, and sitting down with several local fishermen who shared their stories.

Tara Scarborough ‘’Thank you to Palmento Grove Garifuna Eco-Cultural & Fishing Institute and Julio Saqui for educating us on the Indigenous cultures of my beautiful country.
Overall, it was a jam-packed, fun-filled learning experience with the crew. Despite not covering everything we aimed to, we achieved a great deal.
To Andi Cross, Marla Tomorug and Adam Moore; I can’t wait to hear all the amazing stories from your adventures in Belize! I truly hope you enjoyed your time here with us as much as we enjoyed having you. ‘’
